ELYRIA, OH – Thursday, July 30 from 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM in the Elyria City Hall Parking Lot, We Care Elyria will be distributing fresh produce boxes and masks for Elyria residents. Fresh Produce Boxes donated from Perfect Pact, USA typically include potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, apples, and cucumbers, and may include additional seasonal fruits and vegetables. The 100% cotton masks are courtesy of a donation from Bella + Canvas through the Masks for Mayors initiative. There are roughly 31,000lbs of produce, and nearly 2,000 remaining masks available. Elyria agencies in need of food for distribution are encouraged to call the Office of the Mayor at 440-326-1402, or email Mark Ballard II, Mayor’s Liaison at mballard2@cityofelyria.org to coordinate their produce pickup.
Additionally, the Complete Count Committee and the Lorain County Urban League will be on site to encourage residents to get counted and complete the census. The Census van will also be parked on 2nd Street coming out of the City Hall Parking Lot to assist any resident in completing their census in real time. Vitalant, in partnership with Lorain County, will also be hosting a Blood Drive in front of City Hall on Thursday from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The Vitalant blood drive will also include providing antibody testing to help identify future, potential donors who can give convalescent plasma to help patients currently battling COVID-19.
