GET TO KNOW MAYOR BRUBAKER

Kevin A. Brubaker’s first term as Mayor of the City of Elyria began on January 1, 2024. His 2023 campaign emphasized the City’s need for greater Economic Development, increased Public Safety, and a return to Financial Transparency in City Hall. At the culmination of a spirited four-way race, Elyrians chose Brubaker in the historic November 7, 2023, election.

Get to know the mayor’s staff and their priorities throughout the City. 

Chris Pyanowski, Safety Service Director

As the City of Elyria’s Safety Service Director, Chris Pyanowski oversees the City’s day-to-day operations, budget, and personnel management. He joined Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker’s Administration on January 1, 2024.

Pyanowski is an attorney who previously served as Chief of Staff of Operations at the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 2003. Active in the community, Pyanowski has served on the boards of Elyria’s Rotary Club and the Friendship Animal Protective League, and he is a member of the Lorain County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Legion Post 12, AMVETS Post 32, and other community organizations.

Dawn Calvert, Assistant Safety Service Director

As Assistant Safety Service Director, Dawn Calvert manages the City’s economic development programs under the direction of Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker. Calvert has an MBA in Public Administration with a specialization in Economic Development. Having previously served the City as an Assistant Safety Service Director, Calvert joined the Brubaker Administration on January 1, 2024.

Jay Loesch, Assistant Safety Service Director

As Assistant Safety Service Director, Jay Loesch manages residents’ concerns and property maintenance, and he provides on-site response for emergency services as needed. Previously, Loesch worked as a school resource officer, a detective, Safety Town Director, and more during his 25-year tenure at the Elyria Police Department. He joined the Brubaker Administration on January 1, 2024.

Joe Strohsack, Assistant Safety Service Director

As Assistant Safety Service Director, Joe Strohsack oversees Issue 6 projects, City facility management, and CDL training, in addition to the support he provides to departments across City Hall. Strohsack has worked for the City of Elyria since 1997 as a Mechanic as well as the Fleet Manager of the Central Maintenance Complex. He joined the Brubaker Administration on January 1, 2024.

Mark F. Craig, Esq., Administrative Legal Counsel

Mark F. Craig is the Administrative Legal Counsel for Mayor Brubaker’s administration. Licensed since 2002, Craig’s practice focuses on real estate, construction law and business representation. He is experienced with drafting and negotiating construction contract documents, surety bond claims and mechanics’ liens, and transaction real estate matters. He is admitted to practice in all Ohio state courts, Ohio Northern and Southern District federal courts, U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, Pennsylvania Western District federal court, Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Craig is currently a member of the Lorain County Bar Association, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and Ohio State Bar Association. He served on Elyria City Council for over a decade, representing the Fourth Ward. He also currently serves as legal counsel for the Board of the Lorain County Association of Realtors and is a member of the Legal Action Network for Development Strategies (LANDS).
