The City will respond to proper notification of the activation of an alarm system without charge for the response to an alarm in which there are reasonable grounds to believe that the cause of the activation of the alarm was an emergency of the type for which the alarm system is designed.

In the event there was a false alarm, defined, per section 703.20, ECO as an alarm for which there is not reasonable cause to believe that the cause of the activation was an emergency for which the alarm system was designed, permit holders will be charged for emergency response in the following increments:

  • 1st Incident: No Charge
  • 2nd-5th Incident: $25.00
  • 6th-10th Incident: $50.00
  • 11th+ Incident: $100.00

NOTE: Incidents are tracked within a calendar year.

Fire Alarms
If the Fire Chief or their designated representative determines that there has been a malfunction of the fire alarm system at no fault of the owner or occupant, no service/response call shall be charged.

Other Alarms
If the Chief of Police or their designated representative determines that there has been a malfunction of the alarm system at no fault of the owner or occupant, no service/response call shall be charged.

HOW TO PAY

False alarm balances are payable net thirty (30) days upon receipt of invoice, and can be paid via mail to:

Payments can also be dropped off in person to the Office of the Safety Service Director Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. For questions, please call 440-326-1404.

For proper credit, please include “False Alarms” in the memo line of your check payment.

NOTE: Failure to pay may result in collection from the City of Elyria Law Director.
