  4.  » Free COVID-19 Community Testing Event: Lorain County Health & Dentistry and Ohio National Guard Provide Coronavirus (COVID-19) Testing in Elyria City Hall Parking Lot

Lorain County Health & Dentistry, a Community Health Center, will work with the Ohio National Guard, and the City of Elyria, to host a 1-day COVID-19 testing event in Elyria.

The partners will hold a COVID-19 Community Testing Event at Elyria City Hall Parking Lot on Saturday, September 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Tents will be set up in the parking lot. Those driving will remain in their vehicle to receive the swab test through an open window. Persons walking to the event will be directed to a walk-up only tent for testing.

“We are happy to improve access to COVID testing by providing this FREE community-wide event. Testing identifies persons with the virus and means we can both better manage those affected and protect others by minimizing the spread,” said Stephanie Wiersma, LCH&D President & CEO.

Testing will be available for individuals ages 2 and older with or without symptoms. The test has no out-of-pocket cost and participants do not need a doctor’s referral or order. No pre-registration is required. All are welcome.

“We are glad to partner with Lorain County Health & Dentistry and the Ohio National Guard for a second free COVID-19 testing event,” said Mayor Frank Whitfield “Ensuring our community is tested and has results that allow them to make informed decisions and inch back towards “normal” is our top priority. We hope Elyrians and members of our extended and neighboring communities take advantage of this opportunity.”

Lorain County Health & Dentistry (LCH&D) also provides daily COVID-19 testing “curbside” at two LCH&D locations in Lorain and Elyria during normal business hours for LCH&D patients. Curbside tests are by appointment only and require a doctor’s order obtained by way of a scheduled telehealth visit. Persons unable to attend the Saturday, September 19 community-wide event should call LCH&D at 440-240-1655 to request a telehealth visit and a COVID-19 test.

Lorain County Health & Dentistry, a not-for-profit Community Health Center and the county’s largest safety-net provider, provides primary medical, behavioral health, dental and eye care to people of Lorain County, and surrounding counties, regardless of ability to pay. Operating seven sites in Lorain, Elyria and Oberlin, the health center offers both on-site and telehealth visits. LCH&D is a 2019 National Quality Leader, ranking in the top 1% of all health centers for Heart Health and a 2019 National Health Center Quality Leader for best overall clinical performance among all health centers. Last year, LCH&D served 15,255 unduplicated patients in 51,255 medical and dental visits.
