Who do I call if a street, signal, or other traffic sign isn’t working correctly?

Answer: Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM please call us at 440-326-1400, ext. 3400.

Outside of working hours or on a weekend, please call the Elyria Police Department at 440-323-3302.

Who do I call about traffic patterns or traffic signal timing?

Answer: Please call the Engineering Department at 440-326-1444.

What do drivers do for a flashing red light?

Answer: FLASHING RED—A flashing red signal light means exactly the same as a stop sign: STOP! After stopping, proceed when safe and observe the right-of-way rules.

What do drivers do for a flashing yellow light?

Answer: FLASHING YELLOW—A flashing yellow signal light warns you to be careful. Slow down and be especially alert.

What do drivers do if a traffic light isn’t working?

Answer: TRAFFIC SIGNAL BLACKOUT—If all traffic signal lights are not working because of an electrical power failure, you must stop at the intersection and then proceed when you know other turning and approaching vehicles, bicycles, or pedestrians have stopped. A blacked-out traffic signal works the same as a four-way stop intersection.
