The City of Elyria is preparing for a potential winter storm. Your safety is very important to us.
There are many steps you can take before the snow arrives:
- Check your emergency supplies including food and water

Stay tuned to weather.gov/cle and for forecast updates
- Get your vehicle prepared by making sure it is winter ready (more info HERE)
- If you are parked on the streets, please pull your car into a driveway to help with snow removal
- Bring all pets inside
- Check on your neighbors, especially the elderly
- Shovel your sidewalks
SNOW PARKING BAN
The City of Elyria is issuing a Snow Parking Ban beginning on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 6:00pm thru Sunday, February 5, 2022 at 6:00am.
Residents are reminded to obey all current on-street parking pursuant to Elyria Ordinance 351-18 “Snow Emergency” that lists streets prohibiting parking of those designated streets; these streets are signed with“ no parking” when snow exceeds 4” (four) inches or more.
SANITATION UPDATES
Due to the weather conditions trash pickup will be DELAYED Thursday, February 3rd and Friday, February 4th. The following is the updated schedule to make up for the delayed days. Please set out and remove trash cans in a timely manner to help with snow removal.

SNOWMELT
With the anticipated snowmelt and possible rain event on Tuesday going into Wednesday, the City is asking for resident’s help with clearing paths along the curbs to the catch basins and storm drains in front of or near their homes to help alleviate street flooding.
With the ground being frozen, snowmelt and rain will cause ponding in low lying areas. The pending storm event later in the week will cause freezing of any ponded water, so residents should take extra caution getting around.
Also, residents are encouraged to make sure their sump pumps are operational. The combined amount of snow melt and rain could result in an unusually high amount of ground water flowing into basement sumps.
PARKS AND RECREATION UPDATE
All recreational activities, including the ice rink, are canceled Thursday 2/3/22 and Friday 2/4/22 due to the possible weather.
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Warming center for men at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Elyria, Ohio. Located at 300 3rd street, the center will be open from 6pm to 8:30am, 7 days a week. Anyone seeking shelter should contact Coordinated Entry at 440-242-0455, leaving a name, callback number, and a description of your situation.
