ELYRIA, Ohio – The City of Elyria is proud to share that University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center has expanded its capabilities with several advanced medical services that are now fully operational and serving our community.
UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute has successfully launched its valve and structural heart program onsite at UH Elyria Medical Center, providing advanced minimally invasive therapies for patients with conditions that affect the heart’s valves, walls, chambers, or muscles. An example is the minimally invasive left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) procedure, an alternative to long-term blood thinning medication for stroke prevention in individuals with atrial fibrillation (AFib), the most common heart rhythm disorder. Additionally, for individuals with aortic stenosis, a heart valve condition in which the aortic valve is narrowed and doesn’t fully open, the program offers transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a minimally invasive procedure with a quicker and easier recovery compared to open heart surgery. Experts also offer mitral and tricuspid valve interventions at UH Elyria.
The city is also thrilled to welcome the latest in surgical innovation with the arrival of the da Vinci Xi surgical robot at UH Elyria. This cutting-edge technology is being used across multiple specialties—urology, general surgery, thoracic, and gynecology—bringing high-quality care closer to home and delivering outstanding patient outcomes.
These services are a testament to the continued investment in Elyria’s healthcare infrastructure and the shared mission to provide top-tier medical care within our own community. The City of Elyria is deeply grateful to University Hospitals and the dedicated medical professionals bringing this vision to life.
