ELYRIA, OH – The City of Elyria has been selected to receive a $19,400 grant from Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost through the “Shine a Light on Dumpers” initiative. The funding will be used to clean up illegal dump sites and invest in deterrent measures to prevent future dumping in the community.

This grant was made possible through a formal Memorandum of Understanding between the City and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Eligible expenses under the program include cleanup of solid waste and construction debris, contractor services, equipment rentals, landfill fees, and the purchase of deterrent tools such as cameras, signage, and barriers.

“This funding is a valuable investment in the safety and appearance of our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Kevin Brubaker. “Illegal dumping is not only an eyesore—it poses serious health and environmental risks. With support from Attorney General Yost’s office, we’ll be able to clean up impacted areas and take stronger steps to stop this activity from recurring.”

The City will be required to spend the funds within 12 months and provide progress and final reports to the Attorney General’s Office. Elyria will also maintain detailed records of project activities and expenditures to ensure transparency and compliance.

More information about cleanup activities and resident involvement will be shared in the coming weeks. Residents are encouraged to report illegal dumping to the City and support community efforts to keep Elyria clean and safe.
