The Elyria ADA Advisory Board exists to ensure that all residents, employees, and visitors have equal access to the City’s programs, services, activities, and facilities, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable laws. The Board provides recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, and City departments to remove barriers, improve accessibility, and promote inclusion for individuals with disabilities.

The ADA Advisory Board is appointed by the Mayor.

YOUR RIGHTS

It is the continuing policy of the City of Elyria to do all things necessary and proper to ensure that people with disabilities have equal access to participate in or benefit from all City programs, services, and activities, free from discrimination.

THE LAW

• Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits discrimination based on disability in programs, services, and activities provided or made available by public entities.

• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination based on disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

• Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4112 prohibits disability discrimination in public accommodations and services.

The ADA Advisory Board works to ensure these protections are upheld in Elyria.
