2026 Autumn Leaf Collection Begins October 26

The City of Elyria’s annual curbside leaf collection program begins October 26 and continues through early December, weather permitting.

Preparing Your Leaves

  • Rake or blow leaves into piles or rows near the curb, as close to the street as possible without placing them in the street.
  • Keep branches, brush, twigs, and other debris out of leaf piles. These materials can clog equipment and prevent collection.
  • Do not park vehicles in front of or on top of leaf piles. Blocked piles cannot be collected.
  • Keep children and pets away from leaf piles.

Early in the season, two-person crews collect leaves using a vacuum hose. If some leaves remain beyond the equipment’s reach, residents will need to rake them closer to the curb for a future pickup.

Collection Schedule and Weather

Because of changing weather conditions and the volume of leaves, there is no fixed daily collection schedule. Crews will collect leaves as quickly and as often as possible, with more frequent pickups in areas with the greatest volume.

Rain and snow can slow or temporarily stop collection. Significant snowfall may also require the City to suspend leaf collection so trucks can be converted for snow removal.

End-of-Season Collection

The City will announce the final curbside collection date in early December. After that date, leaves must be bagged for pickup by the Sanitation Department.

Bagged Leaf Drop-Off

Elyria residents may also bring bagged leaves to the compost facility at 45 Chestnut Street. A utility bill is required.

Leaves must be placed in brown paper recycling bags. Bags are available at:

  • City Hall
  • Central Maintenance Complex, 851 Garden Street
