GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

  1. Perform any and all departmental tasks as outlined and instructed by his/her designated supervisor.
  2. Assist Service Workers and Skilled Maintenance in the performance of their assignments.
  3. Receive training in the operation of equipment and vehicles that may qualify them for future promotion opportunities.
  4. Operate any and all equipment and vehicles as instructed after proper training and approval by appropriate departmental personnel and supervisor.
  5. Perform heavy work for an extended period of time and under varied climatic conditions.
  6. Assist other departments in the performance of their work as directed by the Safety Service Director or his/her designated supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor, which includes lifting, reaching, stretching and bending.
  2. Must have and continually maintain a working telephone.
  3. Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  4. Must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
  5. Must be trustworthy and able to communicate satisfactorily with other employees, who are your customers, the public and elected officials.
  6. Must have and continually maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  7. Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of safety procedures associated with maintenance work; knowledge and ability to use basic tools and equipment common to Park and Recreation maintenance work after proper training; ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to safely and efficiently operate a pick-up truck with a trailer attached.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

The following are examples only and are not intended to be all-inclusive:

Operate mowers and tractors up to 30 HP, weed eaters, hand mowers, one-ton dump truck, pick-up trucks, pick-up truck with trailer, ice edger, Zamboni, small power tools, drills, saws, and floor scrubbing machine.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:

Have exposure to hot, cold, wet, and/or windy conditions while working in very physically demanding jobs.

RATE OF PAY:

$19.94 -$20.94 /hour              

SCHEDULE OF HOURS:

Schedule of hours will vary.  The regular work schedule will include day and weekend shifts (a.m./p.m.) as determined by departmental needs. Working days will be Wednesday through Sunday with Monday and Tuesday off or Saturday – Wednesday with Thursday and Friday Off, usually scheduled 7 am – 3:30 pm, working hours may vary.

**Overtime work may be scheduled per Union Contract.

This position demands off-schedule hours, call-in hours, stand-by work, and other non-routinely scheduled duties.  Incumbents must understand that their flexibility is second to the City’s work demands during times of weather or service emergencies.
