Yard Waste Rules

Yard Waste: leaves, brush, dead plants, weeds, garden wastes, dead trees or branches, chips, tree trunks eight inches or less in diameter, tree trimmings and prunings, excluding grass clippings, dirt, sod, or construction debris.

Grass clippings will not be collected. Bags or containers with grass clippings, WILL NOT BE COLLECTED.   Grass Clippings can be dropped off at the Compost Facility.

Regular hours for dropping off at the compost facility are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Residents will have to show identification and/or utility bills to ensure the waste being dropped off is that of Elyria residents only.

ALL other yard waste must be placed in a clear plastic bag (except as allowed below). Tie the bag securely and place on your curblawn with your regular collection.

Tree and Hedge trimmings and other brush will be collected with your regular weekly collection. (It is suggested that such items be tied in bundles not exceeding 4′ in length and 18″ in diameter with heavy cord.)

Leaves shall be placed in clear plastic bags for pick-up, except in the fall of the year (during the announced Leaf Collection Program) when they may be raked curbside.

Christmas Trees should be placed curbside on your regular collection day and must have all metal nails and stands removed.
