The City of Elyria is currently recruiting for a City Planner in our Community Development Department. The City Planner is responsible for the oversight and management of the City’s land-use, urban design, zoning, and public welfare; oversees the enforcement of land-use policies and zoning codes for areas within the City’s jurisdiction; prepares reports for various boards and commissions regarding planning activities; assists internal and external agencies with the interpretation of land-use codes; develops and updates planning and environmental codes and policies.
Duties:
Oversees the proper interpretation and administration of the City’s Land-Use Plan, the Planning and Zoning Code, and design principles of the development of the City; assists with the development and implementation of growth management, land use, economic development, housing, and other plans, codes, and regulations to meet the City’s needs and any inter-governmental agreements or requirements.
Acts as liaison between Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, community groups, government agencies, developers and elected officials; assists with preparation of agendas and presents to Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and City Council.
Oversees the coordination of activities with other agencies, internal departments, and/or other applicable parties.
Assist residents, contractors, architects/engineers, tenants, developers and others through the approval and permitting process.
Respond to general inquiries relative to content and interpretation of zoning regulations, drafting zoning verification letters, schedule and attending pre-filing meetings.
Collects and summarizes a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as land use, tax base data, and occupancy rates; develops planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs, and regulations.
Researches and prepares submission materials for funding and grant opportunities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in land-use planning, urban planning, architecture, or closely related field and a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in municipal planning OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful zoning experience in township, county or municipal government, or comparable education/experience is highly desirable.
Valid driver’s license required.
Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planning (AICP) is desired, but not required.
Salary: C51 $66,438.61 to $93,014.22
