CLASSIFICATION: Deputy Housing Inspector I
DEPARTMENT: Building Department
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
1. Reports directly to the Department Head.
2. Performs any and all departmental tasks as outlined by his/her superintendent.
3. Other related work as deemed necessary
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
1. Performs systematic and compliant-driven inspections and prepares reports and legal orders in accordance with local ordinances. Performs code enforcement inspections.
2. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
2. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor, which includes lifting, reaching, stretching and bending.
3. Must have and continually maintain a working telephone (proof will be required and records must be kept up to date with the supervisor).
4. Must have a high school diploma or possess a G.E.D.
5. Completion of secondary education
6. Knowledge of code enforcement, commercial and/or residential construction, or a related field.
7. This position works within the Building Department and at times may assist the Community Development Department.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of building, zoning and public nuisance codes; inspection techniques; code enforcement procedures; government structure and process; rehabilitation standards; processing rehabilitation cases; legal/court process as it relates to code enforcement.
SKILLS
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules or regulations to specific situations; compile and prepare reports; communicate effectively; develop and maintain effective working relationships; travel to and gain access to work site; operate a personal computer.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The ability to obtain the International Property Maintenance Code certification within six months of hire. Possession of and continually maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORK CONDITIONS
The employee has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid and/or windy conditions; enters structures which are condemned for health, safety and/or structural reasons.
RATE OF PAY: $23.8645
SCHEDULE OF HOURS:
Regular work hours shall be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
***May be required to work some overtime hours per union contract***
This position demands off-schedule hours, call-in hours, stand-by work, and other non-routinely scheduled duties. Incumbents must understand that their flexibility is second to the City’s work demands during times of weather or service emergencies.
