Arts & Music Camp – CLOSED

June 15 – 19  8:30-3:30 PM

East Recreation Center, 1101 Prospect

After spending nine and a half months in a structured classroom environment, this camp is designed to give children and youth creative freedom.  The art, dance, music and theater activities are designed to promote creativity, teach responsibility, cooperation and courage – whether that means dancing on stage, reciting a monologue or creating a puppet character.   And even better, if the participants enjoy the activities, they can continue them into the year through the local organizations providing the activities over the summer.   Swimming and a day working in a local community garden is included.

 

Environmental Science Camp-CLOSED

July 6 – 10  8:30-3:30 PM

Finwood Estate, 799 North Abbe Rd.

Designed to help children develop a curiosity, love and appreciation for the natural world though an environmental perspective, this camp is packed with fun, hands-on activities, experimentation, observation, hikes and field trips.  Curriculum content includes botany, biology, geology, hydrology, chemistry and other natural science themes.  Participants will have fun while building on their content knowledge and acquiring an appreciation for all of Elyria’s natural wonders in our spectacular parks.   Swimming, a day working in a local community garden and a trip to Back to the Wild, Ottawa County is included.

Sports & Healthy Living Camp-CLOSED

August 10- 14 8:30-3:30 PM

South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Drive

Children will enjoy fun sports, learn about and make healthy food choices, play and make new friends in this nurturing camp environment. The focus is promoting healthy living and increasing physical activity through nutrition education and a host of physical activities. Campers can try and/or build their skills in swimming, soccer, basketball, Yoga, sand volleyball, golf, and a Physical Fitness Challenge. Swimming is included in this camp .

 

Reach & Rise “Mini” Camp for Boys & Girls

Explorer Camp-

July 27 – 31  9:00AM- 11:30 AM

Cascade Park Nature Center, Cascade Park

“If tomorrow’s caretakers of the earth are to love and understand the natural world, they need to explore it, enjoy it, and recognize our reliance on it.” Campers ages 6 to 8 will have multiple activities, crafts and games to encourage children to get outdoors.  Curriculum content includes botany, biology, meteorology, hydrology, dendrology, ecology and other natural science themes. A healthy snack will be included. **BREAKFAST WILL BE SERVED**

 

 Explorer Camp

July 27 – 31 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM

 Reach & Rise Camp for Boys & Girls Ages 10-13

Elyria Firefighters Basketball Camp

July 27 – 31     11:30 –1:30 PM

South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Dr.

Designed to build one-on-one relationships, refine basketball skills in a fun, relaxed setting, and build character – this camp will be supervised exclusively by Elyria’s firefighters.  All participants in this camp take home a new basketball.  A hot lunch will be served at the end of each camp day. ***LUNCH WILL BE SERVED AT THIS CAMP***

 

Reach & Rise Camps for Boys & Girls Grades 6 – 8

Extreme Adventures – LIMITED SPACES ARE AVAILABLE

June 22 – 26   8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Finwood Estate, 799 North Abbe Road

 

This camp is for the adventuresome middle school student.  A variety of outdoor activities will be included in this camp:  Archery, orienteering, Kayaking.    An afternoon working in a local garden, a 2.5 hour canoe trip  and an adventure day including kayaking at Findley State Park will be included.  In addition, an intermixture of science themes and activities will complement the activities.

 

Mad Science Camp

July 20- 24 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM

East Recreation Center, 1101 Prospect Street

This camp is designed to stimulate campers’ curiosity as they explore the wonderful world of science.  “Minute to Win It Mornings” will offer campers snippets of fun science experiements and team building activities.  Campers will be amazed when they discover cool chemical reactions, building LEGO machines and a field trip as well as   swimming is included in this camp.

 

Reach & Rise Camps for Girls Ages 13-17

 YTeen Smart Girls

July 13-17    10:00 AM –2:30 PM

Elyria YWCA  318 West Ave.

This Yteen Smart Girls Camp will use the national YWCA/Pepsi Cola model for the development of females with a focus on pride in community and pride in self. An emphasis on promoting responsibility, reinforcing positive behavior and develop character in adolescent girls. This camp addresses critical issues that young women face related to ethics, community awareness, decision making, wellness, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem . A variety of “walk ‘n learn” field trips will be included in this camp.

Reach & Rise Camps for Boys Ages 13-17

Motivational Leadership Basketball Camp

July 13 – 17   10:00 AM –2:30 PM

South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Dr.

 

This basketball camp has more than an athletic focus.  It weaves in the Boys and Girls Club of America’s Passport to Manhood curriculum to teach and promote responsibility, reinforce positive behavior and develop character in adolescent boys.  The passage from boyhood to manhood is challenging and this camp addresses critical issues that young men face related to ethics, decision making, wellness, fatherhood, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem.  Daily award incentives included in this camp.

General Camp Information

Registration will begin on Monday,April 20, 2015  for all camps.  Registration will continue until all camps are full. All camps are FREE for Elyria residents.  Registrations can be faxed, mailed or dropped off at our Main Office.  Registration forms are available on the web, at all Recreation Centers and available from partner agencies.  Each individual will be allowed to sign up for no more than two (2) camps.   Camps will include a light breakfast, hot lunch and afternoon snack, or otherwise noted in the individual camp.
