Mayor’s Office on Volunteer Engagement, Elyria Parks & Recreation Department, Elyria City School District, Elyria Public Library, Elyria Fire Fighters, Lorain County Urban League, Elyria Chapter of  the NAACP, Elyria YWCA, Lorain County Metro Parks, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County,  Horizon Education, Save Our Children, Big Brothers Big Sisters, BASF Corporation, KE McCartney & Associates/Enviromental Rates, Republic Services, Elyria Charities, Friends of Cascade and Yes Zone.

 2017 Registrations will be completed online at https://elyria.recdesk.com/Community/Home, registrations will begin April 4.  Individuals are only allowed to sign up for 3 camps. 

2017 Reach and Rise Discovery Camp Descriptions

 Boys & Girls Ages 6-10

June 12-June 16 Sports & Healthy Living Camp, West Recreation Center, 1200 Foster Avenue –Campers will enjoy fun sports, learn about and make healthy food choices, play and make new friends in this nurturing camp environment. The focus is promoting healthy living and increasing physical activity through nutrition education and a host of physical activities. Campers can try and/or build their skills in soccer, basketball, volleyball, archery, golf, and a Physical Fitness Challenge. Swimming and a field trip to the Roll Arena is included. There will be time to roller skate and participate in a speed and agility clinic. An additional $5.00 Field Trip Fee applies and can be paid when you register or the week you attend camp.

June 19 -23Environmental Science Camp, Finwood Estate, 799 North Abbe Road-Designed to help children develop a curiosity, love and appreciation for the natural world though an environmental perspective. This camp is packed with fun, hands-on activities, experimentation, observation, and hikes. Curriculum content includes botany, biology, geology, hydrology, chemistry and other natural science themes. Participants will have fun while building on their content knowledge and acquiring an appreciation for all of Elyria’s natural wonders in our spectacular parks.   Swimming is included in this camp. Please note Wednesday and Friday all campers will report to North Park.

 

July 24 -28Arts and Music Camp, East Recreation Center 1101 Prospect Street- this camp is designed to give children and youth creative freedom and “express themselves”. The art, dance, music and theater activities are designed to promote creativity, teach responsibility, cooperation and courage – whether that means dancing on stage, reciting a monologue or creating a puppet character.   And even better, if the participants enjoy the activities, they can continue them into the year through the local organizations providing the activities over the summer.   Swimming is included in this camp, and a field trip to Crushers Stadium is included in this camp. An additional $5.00 Field Trip Fee applies and can be paid when you register or the week you attend camp.

Middle School Camps (Boys & Girls Entering Grades 6-8)

June 5-9Extreme Adventures, South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Drive-Designed for the adventuresome middle school student.  This camp will have a variety of outdoor activities; archery, orienteering, Geocaching, rock wall climbing, roller skating, speed and agility training and ropes course, Swimming is included in this camp.  An intermixture of science themes and activities will complement the activities.  An additional $20.00 Field Trip Fee Applies and can be paid when you register or the week you attend camp

June 26 – 30– Explore Lorain County, 101 South Park Drive – Explore Lorain County Camp is designed to expose camper to local history right here in our backyard. A variety of field trips to locations in Lorain County will be included. Anti-bullying and leadership activities are also included in this camp. Swimming for this camp will be Wednesdays and Fridays. An additional $10.00 Field Trip Fee Applies and can be paid when you register or the week you attend camp

 

 

Specialty Camps

 Boys & Girls Ages 10-13

July 24- 28Firefighter Basketball Camp, South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Drive-Designed to build one-on-one relationships, refine basketball skills in a fun, relaxed setting, and build character – this camp will be supervised exclusively by Elyria’s firefighters. All participants in this camp take home a new basketball. A bagged lunch will be provided.

 

Girls Ages 13-17

July 10-14Yteen Smart Girls, Elyria YWCA, -This Yteen Smart Girls Camp will use the national YWCA/Pepsi Cola model for the development of females with a focus on pride in community and pride in self. An emphasis on promoting responsibility, reinforcing positive behavior and develop character in adolescent girls. This camp addresses critical issues that young women face related to ethics, community awareness, decision making, wellness, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem. A variety of “walk ‘n learn” field trips will be included in this camp.

Boys Ages 13 -17

July 10-14Motivational Leadership Basketball Camp, South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Drive-This basketball camp has more than an athletic focus. It weaves in the Boys and Girls Club of America’s Passport to Manhood curriculum to teach and promote responsibility, reinforce positive behavior and develop character in adolescent boys. The passage from boyhood to manhood is challenging and this camp addresses critical issues that young men face related to ethics, decision making, wellness, fatherhood, employment and careers, cooperation and conflict, diversity, relationships and self-esteem.

 

Boys & Girls Grades 9 – 12

 

July 24-28 – Chamber Lead, Finwood Estate, 799 North Abbe Road – Chamber Leadership Academy (CLA), designed for high school students, takes our personal development programming to the next level by partnering with local chambers of commerce, area municipalities and business leaders to turn a city into a classroom.

CLA is a 5-day program with a central theme anchored to each day, a closely associated leadership skill-set, and a carefully selected location in the host city. A panel of speakers with unique insights and backgrounds highlight the day’s theme.
