An Annual Winter Festival is generally held the 3rd week of February. Activities held in Cascade Park include sled races, snow ball toss, snow sculpture and a winter hike.  A movie is shown in the Cascade Nature Center. Activities at North Park Sports Complex will include special hockey games, open and skates and more.  Watch cable channel 12 for additional information..


The Elyria Parks and Recreation Department will offer an Easter Egg Hunt at the East Recreation Center, 1101 Prospect Street on Saturday, March 22nd at 10:00 a.m. for children in preschool thru 3rd grade.  The Easter Bunny will make an appearance.  Bring a basket or bag to carry your eggs.   There is no fee for this event.  For more information call (440) 326-1500.


The Elyria Parks & Recreation Department, L.C. Solid Waste Management, Lorain County Transit, Elyria Book Mobile, Hosta Heaven, Home Depot Team, Eastern Heights Jr. High Band, Boy Scout Troop #133 and more invite you to join us in celebrating Arbor Day & Earth Day in CASCADE PARK.

Saturday, May 3rd 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 

FREE hands on activities, displays and wagon rides will be available.



Join hundreds of other Elyrians on Saturday, May 17th for the annual Elyria Pride Day.  Adopt a project to clean, paint, fix or spruce up your home, neighborhood, place of business, church, playground or a city park.

Everyone loves a parade! Parade Day is held on Memorial Day Monday. Participants meet on Second St. next to the First Congregational Church. Families are welcome to attend.


The place to be on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. throughout the summer is our own downtown Ely Park.  Bring your lawn chair, lunch, sit back, listen and ENJOY! 

The summer Concert Series begins in June and ends in mid-August.   If you don’t want to pack a lunch our Hot Dog Cart will be available for sandwiches, beverages and snacks.  Limited picnic tables are available.

A free Halloween party for pre-schoolers through 6th grade.  The party is held in Ely Square downtown, immediately following the Kiwanis Parade on Sunday, October 26th.  Activities include prizes, games and a pumpkin hunt for preschoolers.  In case of inclement weather, the party will be held in the East Recreation Center, 1101 Prospect Street.

Someone special from Santa’s House will be making calls the 1st week of December from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. to children who are in pre-school (4 & 5 year olds) through the 2nd grade.    Windstream Communications Inc.,  AFSCME Local #277 and local high school students are assisting with this program.  Only children with an Elyria phone number and whose parents/guardians have returned a completed application will be called. 

Applications will be available the week of November 3rd.  Deadline is Tuesday, November 25th.  Applications may be faxed to the main office @ (440) 326-1511 or dropped off at designated locations.



The beautiful Finwood Estate at 799 North Abbe Road will be decorated for the holiday season by the Parks Department.  Everyone is welcome and visitors may visit with Santa. Be sure to bring your camera.  Area girl scouts troops will serve refreshments.

The estate will be open 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. weekdays.  Dates to be announced in September 2008. A non-perishable canned food donation will be accepted as admission and will be donated to the Elyria Hospitality House.  The exterior lights will be available for viewing through January 1st.
